Boat Buying Guide
With hundreds of different boat makes, models, and types on the market, finding the one that’s just right for you can be a challenge. That’s why the experts at Crossroad Powersports have created this convenience boat buying guide.
What Is Your Budget
As with any major purchase, your first step after deciding to buy a boat should be to create a budget. This serves two purposes. Number one, it will create a set spending limit that will designate how much you are willing to pay in total. Number two, it will help you keep track of extra expenses like fuel, insurance, registration fees, and so on.
How Will You Use The Boat?
A good way to figure out which boat type you should purchase is to ask yourself how you plan to use the vessel. For example, wake boats contain many features that are meant to create a better wake. While they’re literally designed for watersports, they might not be as good of a fit if you want to host a party out on the water. For that, you’ll probably want a pontoon boat. Pontoon boats, while not as fast as some boat types, are very stable and usually have a lot of deck and storage space. Don’t be afraid to shop around and do some research in order to find the perfect vessel for you.
How Large of a Boat Do You Want?
When shopping boats, size is an important factor to consider. Sure, having a larger boat might be seen as a status symbol, with room to accommodate more passengers and store more gear. However, larger vessels also cost more, are more of a hassle to tow, and can be difficult to store. Don’t overspend on a vessel that’s larger than what you’ll realistically need.
What Hull Shape Suits Your Needs?
Boat hulls come in a variety of different shapes, but most commercially available vessels have either flat-bottomed or v-shaped hulls. V-shaped hulls are a good choice for rough, open waters where they provide better stability. Flat-bottomed vessels are a better choice for shallow waters, since they are less likely to scrape against the bottom.
