Essential Camping Gear for You and Your Quad
Camping and powersports vehicles practically go hand in hand. If you’ve never tried it, we highly recommend dropping the bigger vehicles for a while and going off-road with your quad. Camping with a powersports vehicle can require some unique supplies, so check out some of the gear we have recommended below.
What to Keep in Mind
Of course, if you’re camping with your quad, you’ll have limited storage space. Everything you bring should have a purpose, because you probably won’t have room for luxuries. Even the essentials need to be scaled down as much as possible. Pick up travel-sized products whenever possible and find ways to make what little you can bring stretch. If needed, you can also look into aftermarket storage options to add a little more space, although keep in mind that this adds weight, which can slow you down and hurt your efficiency.
Shelter
We’ll start with some of the big stuff. While some travelers will want to rent a cabin, it can be more enjoyable to stay outside and sleep in a tent. However, tents can be big, even when they’re on the smaller side. You’ll still want to stick with that smaller size — try to pick a one-person tent and consider looking into backpacking equipment.
Clothes
Clothes are an essential item that can take up a lot of room. You’ll want to take advantage of laundry facilities in the towns you pass to cut down on how much you bring. You can probably wear some clothes more than once before washing them, so long as they’re still clean.
Food and Cooking
At this point, you’re probably running out of room. However, there’s still more, so make some space! Limit the food you bring to things that’ll fill you up, provide lots of nutrients, and are easy to store. Peanut butter, bag meals, trail mix, and dehydrated foods are all great options.
A Miscellaneous Bag
From chargers to tools to a first-aid kit and more, there will probably be a lot of odds and ends you’ll need to find a home for. We recommend having one or two bags to keep everything organized. If you need to pull out all your gear, it’s already gathered in one spot. No digging through cargo boxes or saddlebags.
