How to Maintain Your Four-Wheeler

Whether you have just purchased a four-wheeler or you’ve owned one for a while now, you’ll want to take proper care of it. When it comes to ATVs, your routine maintenance tasks play a major role in this. Fortunately, there’s a lot that you can do at home to keep your vehicle in great shape for years to come. Tire Pressure

Tires are responsible for supporting the entire weight of your four-wheeler, so use a tire pressure gauge to regularly check the pressure. It’s a good idea to do this at least once a week when performing maintenance checks. Air up your vehicle’s tires to the manufacturer’s recommended psi level. You’ll also want to inspect the tires for uneven wear, bald spots, or embedded objects. Confirm there is enough tread depth and that there is no damage to the sidewalls.

Driveline

When handling maintenance, you should always check the driveline of your four-wheeler. If it malfunctions, you won’t be able to go far, as the driveline transfers power from the engine to the wheels. Even if your engine is in good shape, it won’t make up for a malfunctioning driveline. To avoid issues, regularly inspect the driveline. If you suspect there’s a problem, you may need to consult a professional for assistance depending on your skill level.

Change the Oil

One of the best things you can do for your four-wheeler is to keep up with oil changes. You can check the status of the oil by removing the dipstick, wiping it off, reinserting it, and removing it once more. Check both the color and the location of the oil on the dipstick. You’ll have to change the oil if it’s opaque or thick and sludgy. You also need to check and see where the oil falls on the dipstick. If it’s not where it should be, you’ll need to add more oil.
