If you’ve had an ATV for a while now and you’re starting to think you need a new one, then it’s probably time to trade your old model in. Trading in your used ATV means you can have some cash to put towards a brand-new quad with all the bells and whistles you desire. There is some preparation involved in selling your ATV, though, if you want to get the most money possible out of the deal and ensure that the transaction goes smoothly. Follow these steps to get your ATV ready to go on sale.

1. Clean Your Quad

One of the most important things you need to do is to clean up your ATV. Give the whole vehicle a thorough washing and scrubbing to remove as much mud and grime as you possibly can. You can even apply a nice shiny coat of wax to the plastic to make it gleam in the sun and catch a buyer’s eye. A clean ATV is one that’s a lot more likely to sell quickly, since customers can see exactly what they’re getting. It also makes your ATV look newer and like it was taken care of.

2. Perform Some Maintenance

You’re not done yet, though. You should also take the time to tune up your ATV and get it as functional as possible. Air up tires (or replace them if they’re very worn), change the oil, swap out filters, and try to clean up some cosmetic scrapes and scratches where you can. A little money spent on this kind of touching up can go a long way when your ATV hits the sales floor.

3. Gather Vehicle Records

A potential buyer will want to know as much about your ATV as possible before they swipe their credit card. Collect all the records you have on your ATV, including maintenance and insurance papers, as well as the owner’s manual. If you can demonstrate to a potential buyer that you’ve taken care of the ATV and performed everything to the letter, they’ll be able to trust that the ATV will work as it should when they take ownership. This is also a good time to figure out what you need to do with the title to the vehicle to transfer ownership.
