Four-wheelers, also known as ATVs or quads, are a popular type of powersports vehicle. Like most types of vehicles, four-wheelers require gasoline in order to run. If you like to ride your ATV a lot but you don’t want to spend a ton of money on fuel, then you need to look at ways to improve your quad’s overall fuel efficiency. Here are our top tips.

Don’t Overburden Your Quad

An ATV that’s carrying too much stuff is going to use up much more fuel. Think carefully about what you really need to bring on board your quad, and remove any items you don’t need for a particular ride.

Use Brakes More Effectively

Slamming on your brakes is not just hard on the brake pads, but it also reduces the fuel efficiency of your ATV. It’s better to ease off the gas slowly when you know you need to reduce your speed and then gently apply the brakes to bring your ATV to a full stop. Obviously, there may be occasions where you have to slam the brakes for safety (such as when an animal crosses your path unexpectedly), but avoid making this a habit.

Keep Tabs on Tire Pressure & Condition

The tires on your four-wheeler should always be inflated to the proper psi levels for the type of riding you’re doing. You’ll also want to keep tabs on their condition and replace any tires that are damaged or worn out. Using the right types of tires for the type of riding you’re doing will also improve the fuel economy of your ATV.
